Cleaning Up After flood damage

March 22, 2012 | admin

With the challenge of cleaning after a flood, several factors may be over-looked and may lead to long-term health risks. After a flood, indoor air quality is not only an issue that leads to bad scent, but also chemicals being trapped into a closed area can lead to bacteria in the lungs. Failure to reduce moisture and humidity can lead to an increase in several micro-organisms. Things such as bacteria and mold can be hazardous if overlooked while residing within the damaged area. This may cause new triggers in allergic reactions, changes in breathing patterns, and unexplained disease.

With cleaning, there is a higher need to reduce the chemical in-take within a certain area. Better cleaning techniques need to be used when taking into consideration the damage to your carpets, floors, and walls. For example, using carpet cleaners with polar solvents is not only effective but also safer than using cleaners with non-polar solvents because it reduces the amount of oil and grease in the liquid of the carpet cleaner. Non-polar solvents can keep the carpet semi-moist, which leads to mold within the carpet. Also, when looking to control odors, look into enzyme bacteria solutions to control malodors over using aerosol cans.

Green ribbon schools recognition award

March 22, 2012 | admin

During late September of 2011, Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, made the official announcement for the pilot year of Green Ribbon Schools to be set for 2012. For the summer months beforehand the US Department of Education was vigorously working on creating the specific guidelines and criteria for this program. The goal of Green Ribbon Schools is to recognize green schools that have strong environmental impact, are energy efficient, provide a healthy environment within the school, and offer eco friendly education to students.

The Green Ribbon Program is beneficial to the environment and the health of students and faculty. Improvements in schools facilities save money and create new jobs within the school. Also, natural resources are conserved and students are given the opportunity to experience and participate in a green economy. Furthermore, students will also learn healthy behaviors, which result in increased standards in nutrition, fitness, attendance, and productivity. Now that we understand the benefits, how are schools considered for this award?

In order for schools to be considered for the Green Ribbon Award they must first be nominated by their states chief education officer. From there, state education officers evaluate each school nominated based on their criteria and guidelines. Next, the Department Of Education further evaluates the top nominees. Each state is allowed to have one recipient of the Green Ribbon Award. The winners will receive national and local recognition and may even be awarded private financial assistance.

This spring, schools across the nation will work intently on creating an environmentally friendly facility in hopes of being named a Green Ribbon School. All participating schools will reap the health and educational benefits of this fantastic program. The Green Ribbon Program hopes that they will have some tough decisions to make when choosing the awards recipients this spring.

Brighton’s Guide To Simplifying Your Trash

March 22, 2012 | admin

With football season, MLB World Series, and Dancing with Stars on television, everyone is throwing away garbage from all the events they attend during the day. You want to make sure the school children have enough room to throw away their trash from school. You want to make sure the office have a large enough recycling bin for all their empty soda bottles and Red bull cans. How much of a disaster would it be if you walk into your property and all the trash is on the floor? People do not like sitting around filth and bad smells can lead to less people around your property. Whether you are a restaurant owner or an office building manager, the people who are in your building will need to throw their trash out somewhere.

Brighton USA has put together a little guide to helping you select the right trash receptacle. When you are done reading this, check out our Catalog and see if we have the right product for you:

Here is a guide to choosing the right trash receptacles:

1.Proper Liner Type:

There are three types of liners: low-density polyethylene, high-density polyethylene, and Super Hexene.
That sounds pretty complicated! I can make it simple for you.

High-Density:
This is the typical choice for office, restroom, and throwing away paper products.
It is also three times stronger than ordinary polyethylene liners

Linear Low Density:
Low Density: Great choice for throwing away trash with sharp objects

Super Hexene: This is the maximum strength, puncture and tear resistance linear. It is also stronger than Linear Low Density. This is used to throw away larger weight with higher weight.

2.) Size:
The capacity is usually printed on the container. You should have 3 to 4 inches overhang on the trash receptacle. The size of the receptacle should be appropriate for the setting you are in. For instance you may not want a massive receptacle inside your small office; it might smell pretty awful in there.

3.) How much weight the linear should hold?
After deciding on the type and the size, you should consider how much weight the linear should hold.
The weight the linear depends on the environment you are setting your trash receptacle.

4.) Location, location, location!
I really stress the importance of where you place your receptacle. The same receptacle in a high school lunchroom shouldn’t be used in a stadium. The amount of people and traffic going through a stadium is very different than a high school lunchroom. Be sure to take this into high consideration before making your final decision.

Also a great place to make your final decision would be by looking at your catalog for all your green cleaning needs: Catalog
